QUICK TAKE -DOUBLE-DECKER ROAD AMONG 10 NEW PROJECTS ANNOUNCED
Delhi is likely to get its first doubledecker road with a dedicated elevated bus corridor from Anand Vihar to Tikri border. Delhi PWD minister Satyendar Jain announced this, along with nine other projects which the government intends to take up, while inaugurating a half-flyover at Burari.“The east-west corridor from Anand Vihar to Tikri border via Punjabi Bagh will be the first such project in the city. It will be a double-decker road with the lower level dedicated to cars and two wheelers while the upper level will be reserved for buses,“ said Jain. The minister is expected to travel to Malaysia in the coming days to study elevated BRT corridors.
CENTRE OKS 13 HIGHWAY PROJECTS WORTH RS 10,000CR
More than five years after NHAI awarded the country's largest highway project--Kishangarh-UdaipurAhmedabad stretch of NH-8--which never took off, the highways ministry has approved the division of this project into five sub-stretches and called for tenders of four out of these five stretches. These were part of the 13 projects that were approved by an inter-ministerial committee empowered to clear projects costing each up to Rs 1,000 crore. In total, these 670km of road works will involve Rs 10,300 crore investment.
